Soaring Summer Appeal-1
Soaring “Sante Fanm” Women’s Health & Birth Center Grows On And On
As we reach mid-summer 2024 in Haiti, service to women & children continues
As of the start of July 2024, Soaring’s birth center has now logged nearly 200 babies since our opening a year and a half ago! The two precious infants pictured above are a just a few of the latest babies born safe and healthy at “Sante Fanm.” We are far outdistancing the statistics in Haiti for maternal and infant mortality, offering hope and life-saving services for women and their children and families in this poverty-stricken developing nation.
More Programs & Services Start-Up at our Northern Haiti Women’s Center
In year two of our new midwifery facilities, we have launched and added several new programs and services focused on women and their children. In the photo below left, women and children who are “alumni” of our prenatal and birth services, gather for a “reunion.” Events like this offer follow-up opportunities such as continued check-up’s for the women, immunizations for the children, access to nutritional food distribution to keep everyone in the family healthy, and more.
The Soaring “Mother’s Club”
In honor of Mother’s Day in Haiti, our Midwives offered a new “Mothers’ Club,” right, in which our new moms gather for support, friendship, continuing education, and to share birth experiences. The special day focused on women&moms also offered cervical cancer screenings (below left).

ALANTA’S STORY: An Example of How Soaring’s Birth Center Saves Women’s & Babies’ Lives!
Alanta Pierre is a 27-year-old patient served at Soaring’s Women’s Health & Birth Center — “Sante Fanm.” She has two children ~ the older one is 4 years old, her father died 2 years after she was born, and Alanta says, “After he died, I didn’t have anyone to help me, and that’s why I then had a boyfriend so there was someone to help me. But I did not protect myself and got pregnant with my second child.” Tragically, her boyfriend didn’t want the child and he told Alanta that if she kept the baby, he would leave her. “He did leave,” she said, “and this time was very hard for me. During my first trimester I didn’t see a doctor because I did not have money to pay for it.”
A friend of Alanta’s told her about Sante Fanm, Soaring Unlimited Haiti’s Women’s Health & Birth Center, and she came for her first visit. The midwives started out conducting all the standard tests and screenings they do for each woman patient. The results of Alanta’s blood tests indicated severe anemia and they prescribed a list of medications. “I was so scared,” Alanta said, “and afraid I was going to die, because I told them I didn’t have the money to pay for the medicine. My baby would die with me, and I would leave my other child without a mother!” But at Soaring we don’t turn patients away for lack of ability to pay, and our midwives and administrators worked together to get the prescriptions filled and purchase all the meds Alanta needed.
“Within a few months, my blood was ok,” said Alanta, “and a month after that I was back at Sante Fanm to have my baby! Now, I have a beautiful healthy baby,” she continued, “and I say thank you to God and a big thank you to Soaring Unlimited & Sante Fanm. May God keep blessing you so you can continue helping save the lives of our Haitian women & babies! Love you all!”
After giving birth successfully, Alanta was introduced to our family planning services and offered free birth control, just as we do with all our women patients. Her story is just one of many stories of the hundreds of women we have served at Sante Fanm, and we pass her thanks along to all of you—our faithful supporters—because we can only continue to provide our lifechanging and life-saving services with your help!
