Women’s Community Micro-Credit Initiative in Pistere Village
Also launched earlier this year was our new Women’s Micro-Loan Group. We have been working with Partners 4 New Hope in the U.S. and their Ministry Center in Cap Haitien, which had started other such groups, and again utilized existing knowledgeable and experienced SUH staff and Haitian partners to recruit and vet members for the group. We have issued the first round of small loans to the women members of the group to help them start or expand established local business initiatives, which benefit their families and the overall community. They have successfully begun the schedule of repayments, which are required by all members before anyone can qualify for further rounds of loans, thus creating accountability and community collaboration and support. As you know, micro-credit initiatives are a proven method of financial and economic development in the developing world, and we are excited about this new area of programming by SUH.
