Women’s Community Micro-Credit Empowerment Initiative

Newly launched in recent years are our new Women’s Micro-Loan Groups. We have been working with Partners 4 New Hope in the U.S. and their Ministry Center in Cap Haitien to fulfill this economic project. They had previously started other such groups, and we utilized existing knowledgeable and experienced SUH staff and Haitian partners to recruit and vet members for the group, and manage the administration of the program.

We have issued several rounds of small loans to the local Haitian women members of the groups, to help them start or expand local business initiatives, which benefit their family finances, their children, and the economy of the overall community. The women members have successfully fulfilled multiple repayment schedules, which are required by all members before anyone can qualify for further rounds of loans, thus creating accountability and community collaboration and support. Micro-credit initiatives are a proven method of financial and economic empowerment in the developing world, and we are excited about this new area of programming by SUH.
